PostSubject: What to post where   Thu May 13, 2010 7:57 am

The galleries are set up with the following in mind. Consider the 'life' of a piece of art.

Work In Progress

As the name implies. Use this area to post those items you are creating. Here you can ask for advise, suggestions, and other help.

At some point, we figure we are about done with the item. At that time in the artwork's life you'd post a version in...

The Gallery

Here, the intent is to post images that we consider very close to complete. We want feedback and critiques. Here members may catch some aspect that the artist may have missed: the errant poke through, some perspective that's off.

Members should follow good practice when writing critiques. Point out what you like and why. When making pointing out area that might be improved, give a specific suggestion of the improvement.

This does not mean we, as the artists will change the work, but we might.

Either way as some point the image can be considered good enough for...

The Museum

The intent of this area is to post your final, final image. These are the images you are the proudest; those pictures you show your friends. You are done with it. No additional work will be done on the piece. No comsments, no critiques from viewers will be allowed. I intend to lock the thread and will delete any other comments except the artists' comments in his post.. The artist can ask for it to be unlocked to edit the text.

Art museums usually have some details and description about images: those small placards near the picture. So, include a short write up about your images. What was the inspiration? What were the challenges? Why do you like it? List some of the models used. Explain any special technique you used being a bit specific and detailed but not too many words.

As examples:

I saw a painting by Renoir called {title}. So I put Alice in {clothes} from{source}, added {hair} by {source} and {somebody's} shader. {Some light set} created the mood I wanted to convey and I added a specular light to highlight the eyes a bit. In post work, I added some hand drawn folds on the clothes and played with the shadows.

I found this in my runtime. Forgot I had it. I added in{a bunch of things}. No post work. The resulting composition gave me a feeling of {however you feel}

Just wanted to do an image using {technique, shader, specific model, theme/subject} . I liked how {something that pleased you} . The real challenge I had was {whatever} .

Hopefully, these images will be be the creme de la creme.

Challenges

Here I will post a challenge. Review the information on these in the appropriate thread (I'll post the link here when I get it done.)

Hopefully, these concepts help direct where to place your images.
